For the past few months I’ve been working on the Libre.fm music service. It provides Last.fm compatible APIs, allowing you to submit your listening habits and to stream creative commons music.
Over the past week I’ve put together an Android application called Libre Droid, allowing people to stream music from libre.fm directly to their Android mobile phones. Here’s a short video of it in action:
It’s now available for download (for free) from the Android marketplace, scan the image below with your phone (or click it in your phone’s browser) to download it:
Alternatively if you don’t have access to the marketplace (e.g. if you’re using Android on an unofficial platform like the OpenMoko phones) you can download the package directly from: http://mikeasoft.com/~mike/libredroid-1.2.apk

Pretty cool.
Just one thing that I miss: listening to custom tags.
For example, on libre fm “the site” I usually listen to “gothic”.
That tags is not available in this app.

Yep, the source is available from the main libre.fm bazaar repository under trunk/clients/libredroid/.

Hi Michael! I would love to use your app on my nexus one, as I am passionate user on a libre.fm. But unfortunately, as many users mentioned, I does not play anything (no audio) on froyo. Do you by any chance have an intention to look at this problem or maybe I need to post a bug in the tracking system for this somewhere? I would appreciate any on your feedback, thanks!

I’m aware of the issue under Froyo and do intend to fix it, unfortunately I’m a bit busy at the moment so probably won’t have time to look at it in detail for a few weeks.
